Guide to listening to your child read

Please send your child to school with their Reading Book Bag EVERY DAY. Books are changed twice a week but the book bag is also used to transfer messages, newsletters and other important information between home and school. Reading books are usually changed on 'Monday and Thursday' or 'Tuesday and Friday.'

Please sign the Reading Record book each time you hear your child read. A few pages every night makes such a difference. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

 Year 1 Curriculum Overview

The children in Year 1 have all settled down really well and are working hard in class. We have lots of fun as we learn and develop our independence through play and more structured activities.

We build on the early reading, writing and mathematical skills introduced in the Reception Class and quickly begin to apply these skills to all our learning.

We often have a challenge to work on at home, such as learning our birthday, days of the week, months of the year, our address, different counting patterns or number bonds.

Please support your child by practising these important skills and help them to grow in confidence.

Active Soccer  are running a football club on Tuesday 3.15 - 4.30 p.m.

This is for year 1 and 2 and takes place in the Hall, or outside weather permitting.

If you want your child to attend please book them in directly with Active Soccer on 0151 538 7684 or 07815855380

Please note the children must bring a football kit/shorts and tee-shirt as school PE kits cannot be worn.

P.E. Kit

As PE times sometimes change, PE kits are kept in school and sent home to be washed at the end of each half term. Please return them to school on the first day back after the holiday. Please make sure all kits are clearly named.

ALL School Uniform must be clearly labelled with your child's name. Please practise fastening coats ready for the cold weather. In Year 1 children should be able to manage their own shoes, buttons and Zips! Please bear this in mind when buying school clothing.
